Understanding your body from the inside ou

Biomechanics is the study of how your body moves — the forces, structures, and patterns that govern every step, stretch, and breath. At the heart of all my work, whether through acupuncture, Pilates, Bowen Technique, or yoga, lies a deep understanding of how your unique structure influences how you feel and function.
Poor alignment, compensatory patterns, and accumulated tension don't just cause discomfort — they quietly drain your energy and limit your potential. By addressing the root mechanics of how you hold and move your body, we create lasting change rather than temporary relief. Whether you're recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, improving athletic performance, or simply seeking to move with greater ease, biomechanical assessment forms the intelligent foundation of your care.

What we work on and why it matters

Posture & Alignment: Structural balance
Your posture is a story written in bone and habit. Years of desk work, repetitive movement, old injuries, and stress all leave their mark on how you hold yourself — often in ways you've stopped noticing. Poor alignment doesn't just affect how you look; it creates uneven load on joints, compresses nerves, strains soft tissue, and quietly exhausts the muscles that are compensating for those that have switched off.
Through careful biomechanical assessment, we look at how your whole structure is organised — not just the area of pain. Tailored movement re-education and hands-on therapy help restore natural balance, so your body can find ease in stillness and efficiency in motion.
We perform a structural assessment to discover your imbalances and then give you a series of exercises to restore natural balance.
Pain & Injury: Root cause, not just symptom
Pain is the body's way of asking for attention — but it rarely tells the whole story. The site of pain is often not the source of it. A stiff hip can manifest as knee discomfort; a restricted thoracic spine may drive persistent headaches; years of guarding an old injury can reshape how your entire body moves. Treating only the painful area often brings only temporary relief.
A biomechanical approach looks upstream and downstream from the problem, piecing together a more complete picture of why the body is struggling. Combined with targeted manual therapy and rehabilitative movement, we work towards lasting resolution — not just pain management
Holistic Integration: considering the whole you
The body doesn't separate structure from nervous system, movement from breath, or physical tension from emotional holding. A truly holistic approach to biomechanics recognises that how we move is shaped by everything — our history, our stress levels, our patterns of rest and effort. This is where the synthesis of disciplines becomes so valuable.
Acupuncture calms the nervous system and encourages the body's own healing. Bowen Technique resets deep fascial patterns. Pilates builds intelligent, functional strength. Yoga teaches the body to breathe and release. Together, these modalities address what biomechanics alone cannot — the full, living complexity of a person in motion. In your consultation we plan and discuss the best option for you.
Sports Performance: move efficiently, train smarter
Athletic performance isn't just about strength or fitness — it's about how well your body moves as an integrated system. Small inefficiencies in movement patterns accumulate with repetition, increasing injury risk and limiting your potential. Whether you run, cycle, swim, play team sports, or train in the gym, understanding your individual mechanics can make a meaningful difference.
We assess your movement patterns, identify where load is being distributed unevenly, and work with you to optimise technique, build resilience, and support faster recovery between sessions. The goal is sustainable, high-quality movement — now and for the long term.

What happens in a session ?

A biomechanics assessment evaluates the different systems of your body that are related your movement: muscles, bones, joints, and nerves to help you move more efficiently, improve your posture and alignment and even decrease pain. Through assessment tests it uncovers the root cause of pain, identifies structural imbalances, looks at your current movement patterns to help find a better pathway to your movement.
  • Targeted Pain Relief: rather than addressing the symptoms of your problem it helps identify the root cause to bring your body into better harmony and balance.
  • Injury Prevention: many injuries are caused by poor movement patterns and muscular imbalances. Biomechanics helps to identify these issues such as poor spinal alignment, asymmetries, faulty pelvic positioning, muscle weaknesses, leg length discrepancies, tightness, overuse or underuse in muscle. So that action can be taken to correct these and improve the performance of your body.
  • Optimized Performance: during a session we perform a series of tests including postural analysis. We look at the way you stand, walk and move so that we can plan to improve the efficiency of your body.
  • Tailored Treatment Plans: once assessment has taken place we can provide a tailored plan using Pilates and yoga exercises as well as therapeutic anti spasm exercises, stretching routines, or physical therapy such as Bowen to restore the body to its optimum. We also offer acupuncture for localised pain relief.
Initial session: £65 including assessment and report
Follow up: £45.00
What our clients say
" At the age of 67 my body was beginning to feel its age. I was starting to develop a dowagers hump and my joints were aching. Then I attended a talk by Rachel on biomechanics and I realised that this was what my body needed. After 3 months of following the personalised exercise programme set by Rachel, to address the failings and imbalances in my physical body, I feel fitter and more energised than I have in a very long time. Rachel has also helped me address my dietary requirements and I am eating a much more balanced and nutritious diet. Biomechanics is now a way of life for me and I will continue to follow my exercise regime to ensure I make the most of my encroaching years. "
