Autumnal Seasonal Eating

Autumnal Eating

Contact us for nutritonal plans
Seasonal eating and being more mindful  and intuitive of what we  eat and when and how we eat are  easy ways to stay in great health and great shape. The season of Autumn is all about eating foods that will warm and nourish our body , as the weather changes and becomes colder. Drawing inwards and strengthening our system and stores for the months ahead.
Autumn energetically vibrates with the lung and large intestine meridians, so we will be working with those meridians in our Yoga sessions. Baked and sautéed foods, cooking with less water and for longer amounts of time are the way forward for this season.  As the season is one of dryness we should also ensure that we are getting enough fluids so herbal teas especially Rosehip are good for this time of year. Key foods to strengthen the lung and large intestine are:
  • To stimulate the body activity eat: sourdough bread, olives, pickles, sauerkraut, salt plums, aduki beans, lemons, limes, grapefruits and the more sour tasting plums apples and grapes.
  • To counteract the dry weather  foods like tofu, tempeh, spinach, barley, millet, pear, persimmon, almonds, peanut, pinenut, sesame seed, honey, barley malt, rice syrup , eggs, clams, oysters, crabs, herrings.
  • Other great foods for this time of year are: seasonal squashes, potatoes, mushroom, red cabbage, sweet potatoes, seeds ( especially pumpkin) , cranberries, chards and broccoli.
We love Paul Pichford's Healing with Whole Foods ( Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition)  which explains about the seasonal changes and also the health benefits of each food. For inspiration we love Calico and Twines Guide to Autumnal Eating for inspiration and recipe ideas.
Que aproveche! Bon Appetit ! Eat to good health !!
