Late Summer Seasonal Eating

EXPERIENCE... FEEL... CONNECT ... MAKE TIME FOR YOUR SOUL

Late Summer Eating

Contact us for nutritonal plans
Seasonal eating and being more mindful  and intuitive of what we  eat and when and how we eat are  easy ways to stay in great health and great shape. The season of late summer is all about abundance.  Reaping what we have sown back in the Spring, grounding ourselves, gaining balance and taking time to nourish our abundance before we move towards the winter months.
Late summer energetically vibrates with the Earth Element of Spleen and Stomach meridians . S
oups, stews and roasted veg are the way forward for this season, starting to phase out the raw foods . Easy to digest and absorb and keep the body heated as we move towards winter. Key foods to strengthen the spleen and stomach are:
  • Beans: white bean dishes, chickpeas, sweet aduki beans
  • Roasted vegetables: sweet potatoes, root vegetables, potatoes, onions, beets, carrots, parsnips
  • Harvest fruits such as apples, pears, blackberries, strawberries, cherries, plums, raspberries, peaches, dates, grapes
  • Yellow vegetables:  pumpkin, squash, yams, butternut, delicata, hubbard, turban, turni, acorn and spaghetti.
  • Green vegetables; fennel, courgette
  • Millet, oats, rice, quinoa, lentils, buckwheat, Teff, corn
  • Walnuts
  • Radish, mustard, ginger root, turmeric, horseradish
We love Paul Pichford's Healing with Whole Foods ( Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition)  which explains about the seasonal changes and also the health benefits of each food. For inspiration we love Kara Lydon Nutriton 5o recipes for Late Summer as she links into foodies bloggers all over the world who are interested in seasonal eating.
Que aproveche! Bon Appetit ! Eat to good health !!
