The small woman
Builds cages for everyone
She
Knows.
While the sage,
Who has to duck her head
When the moon is low,
Keeps dropping keys all night long
For the
Beautiful
Rowdy
Prisoners.

Yoga for Emotional and Mental wellbeing during Covid-19

The impact of Covid-19 has led to a rise in a negative impact on emotional and mental wellbeing. However, research is showing that who remain physically actively, eat well and practice mindfulness are less likely to report poor emotional and mental health. Furthermore, evidence keeps showing the role of yoga's value in helping wellbeing. In fact a recent paper has written that yoga is superior in reducing anxiety than other forms of exercise and mindful movement.

New research from the University of South Australia, published in the B Journal of Sports Medicine shows that mental health can be improved by movement-based yoga. Movement-based yoga was defined as any form of yoga where participants are physically active at least 50% of the time, this includes holding poses or more flowing sequences of poses.

The study was conducted in partnership with Western Sydney University, UNSW Sydney, the Federal University of Santa Maria and Kings College London.  The study  found that movement-based yoga improves a wide range of mental health disorders. The research, examined 19 studies  and included 1080 participants across six countries (US, India, Japan, China, Germany and Sweden). persons involved had a formal diagnosis of a mental disorder, including depression and anxiety.

The World Health Organization reports that one in four people will be affected by a mental health condition. Globally, around 450 million people suffer from mental health issues, many of whom are in developed countries.
