Spring Seasonal Eating

Contact us for nutritonal plans
Seasonal eating and being more mindful  and intuitive of what we  eat and when and how we eat are  easy ways to stay in great health and great shape.
The season of Spring is all about eating foods that are colourful and bursting with the vitality of Spring. Root vegetables and leafy greens can help to detox and restore the liver. Spring is the perfect time to detox and get rid of the sluggishness of winter.

Spring energetically vibrates with the the Liver and Gallbladder meridians and their corresponding meridians, the Pericardium and San Jiao (Triple Heater.
Foods that have a pungent taste as these can stimulate the liver and increase heat in the body. These foods will also increase digestive and improve enzyme function for example ginger, peppers, onion  and garlic. Warming spices in teas can stimulate the liver and increase heat for example clove and allspice.
Bitter and sour foods clean the liver, improving  the flow of bile which helps to clean and eliminate toxins from the liver.  Green and matcha tea instead of coffee can really raise the energy or try drinking a glass of warm water in the morning with sliced lemon
Food can be seasoned with herbs such as parsley, dill, mint, cumin, coriander, fennel, and black cardamom  that can really enhance the flavour of the food.

Green fruits  such as green papaya (and its seeds) and green apples can help aid digestion.
Bitter green vegetables and courgettes can be used in salads and stir-fry's to give you a boost of minerals and vitamins.
If you really want to clean your liver you could try Patrick Halford's 9 Day Liver Detox and really put the spring back into your step.

We love Paul Pichford's Healing with Whole Foods ( Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition)  which explains about the seasonal changes and also the health benefits of each food. For inspiration we love the flexitarian  for inspiration and recipe ideas.   Que aproveche! Bon Appetit ! Eat to good health !!
